Smugglers Retreat is a calm, contemporary escape in one of the coast's most quietly lovely villages. The beach is just minutes away, Brighton is ten minutes down the road, and the rest of the world can wait.
Whether you're here for long walks along the seafront, slow mornings with good coffee, or a proper family break with the sea on the doorstep, this is a place that makes it easy to settle in and unwind.

Smugglers Retreat is a stylish coastal apartment set in the heart of Rottingdean, sleeping up to four guests across two well-appointed bedrooms — one double, and one that can be made up as a super king or twin to suit your party.
The apartment is light, contemporary and fully equipped for a proper stay: a well-stocked kitchen, fast WiFi, smart TV, a modern bathroom with walk-in shower, and a private courtyard garden to escape to when the sun comes out.
The beach, local cafés and the clifftop coastal path are all a short stroll away. Central Brighton is ten minutes by car or bus — close enough for a day out, far enough to feel like a genuine retreat.
Smugglers Retreat takes its name from the village's colourful past — Rottingdean was once a notorious haunt for smugglers, who used a network of tunnels running beneath the village to move contraband ashore along the Sussex coast. The apartment itself is part of that history, housed in a building that's stood here for over 200 years.
Today the village is rather more law-abiding, but it hasn't lost its character. Winding streets, historic buildings, cosy pubs and an unhurried pace of life make Rottingdean a genuinely lovely place to base yourself — and the beach is just a short stroll away.
When the mood takes you, Brighton is only ten minutes by bus, with the bus stop just moments from the door. The city offers everything you'd expect — restaurants, shops, the pier, the seafront — before the coastal path brings you quietly back.
